Jakarta: Indonesia will be sending four men’s doubles pairs including World No. 1 Marcus Fernaldi Gideon/Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo, World No. 3 Hendra Setiawan/Mohammad Ahsan, World No. 5 Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto, and World No. 19 Muhammad Shohibul Fikri/Bagas Maulana to compete at the 2022 World Championships which will be held in Tokyo, from August 21 to August 28.

The Badminton Association of Indonesia (PBSI) men’s doubles coach Aryono Miranat said that his department has now entered the final stage of the three-day intensive training before their departure to Tokyo.

“We focused more on the game strategies in our last stage of training. We also want to make sure they could hit their shots accurately,” said Aryono.

Aryono said he has been paying close attention to the stamina and health of the eight Indonesian men’s doubles players.

“We also make sure the players are staying healthy in these very crucial last few days of training so that they don’t get sick or get injured,” added Aryono.

For PBSI, among the five categories, the men’s doubles department has the highest chance of winning a World Championships.

“Indeed, we won our last world championships in 2019, after that there was a pandemic, and last year we did not participate because of the continuing pandemic situation,” explained Aryono.

“We have been preparing for the World Championships for almost two months. Mentally, physically, and technically we are okay. As for strategy and what kind of game we want to play, we will start analyzing it when we arrive in Tokyo,” continued Aryono.

Meanwhile, PBSI will send Anthony Sinisuka Ginting, Jonatan Christie, and Chico Aura Dwi Wardoyo to the men’s singles event.
