Lucknow: Last week’s India Open mixed doubles runners-up, Chen Tang Jie/Peck Yen Wei of Malaysia rallied past India’s Pratik Ranade/Kanika Kanwal 21-14, 21-12 in the 2022 Syed Modi India International first round on Wednesday in 29 minutes.
The No. 2 seeds will take on another Indian pair -Dhruv Rawat/Shikha Gautam on Thursday.
Another Malaysian mixed doubles pair – Chan Peng Soon/Valeree Siow also didn’t face any problems of reaching the second round as they outclassed India’s Santhosh Gajendra/Deethya Jagadish G 21-16, 21-13 to meet Balkeshari Yadav/Swetaparna Panda also from India in the second round.
In men’s singles, Ng Tze Yong withdrew from the first round action citing not feeling well, while Malaysia’s professional men’s singles player Soong Joo Ven marched into the second round after beating S Sankar Muthusamy Subramanian of India 21-18, 21-15.
Soong will face another Indian player, Mithun Manjunath for a spot in the quarter-finals.
Meanwhile, Man Wei Chong/Tee Kai Wun and Nur Mohd Azriyn Ayub Azriyn/Lim Khim Wah have reached the men’s doubles second round. Man/Tee will play Himanshu Mittal/Shubham Sharma while Azriyn/Lim will take on Krishna Prasad Garaga/Vishnuvardhan Goud Panjala on Thursday.
