Kuala Lumpur: After winning back to back German Open and All England titles in last two weeks, Chinese badminton ace Lin Dan overtook Lee Chong Wei and Kento Momota as he climbed up to World No. 2 in the latest Badminton World Federation (BWF) rankings that was released on Thursday.
Although suffering from first round exit at last week’s All England championships, Malaysian badminton superstar Lee Chong Wei only dropped 1 spot to No. 3 while Kento Momota moved to No. 4.
Chinese shuttler Chen Long has continued his domination on an unchanged No. 1 position while Denmark shuttlers Viktor Axelsen and Jan O Jorgensen finished in the 5th and 6th place.
While reaching the new heights in her career, Nozomi Okuhara who claimed the 2016 All England last week rose 5 spots to a career-best No. 3. Carolina Marin of Spain still retained her healthy lead atop the women’s singles rankings over No. 2 Li Xuerui of China by 11,813 points. However, Saina Nehwal of India who lost in the quarterfinal at the All England Championship saw her slipped three places down the rung to the sixth spot.
Lee Yong Dae/Yoo Yeon Seong of Korea, and Hendra Setiawan/Mohammad Ahsan of Indonesia were holding their places as the top 2 men’s doubles pairs in the world. China’s Chai Biao/Hong Wei have moved from No. 5 to No. 3, followed by their compatriots Fu Haifeng/Zhang Nan in No. 4. Carsten Mogensen who is still recovering from brain surgery together with his partner Mathias Boe slid two spots to No. 5.
Four days after they won their first ever All England title, Misaki Matsutomo/Ayaka Takahashi of Japan rose 2 positions to regain the women’s doubles No. 1 spot.
Zhang Nan/Zhao Yunlei, Tontowi Ahmad/Liliyana Natsir, Liu Cheng/Bao Yixin, Ko Sung Hyun/Kim Ha Na, Xu Chen/Ma Jin rounded out the mixed doubles top 5, while Xu Chen/Ma Jin still lingered just outside as the World No. 6.
