Kuala Lumpur: After winning back-to-back titles in China and Hong Kong in recent two weeks, Lee Chong Wei has shot up 3 spots in the latest Badminton World Federation (BWF) rankings that were released on Thursday.
Lee Chong Wei who returned to competition in May following an eight-month suspension by the BWF after a doping offence, saw his ranking plummeted from world number one to world No. 180th on June 18, 2015.
Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) technical director, Morten Hansen Frost also praised Lee Chong Wei for his extraordinary rise in the BWF rankings.
“Chong Wei’s had an impressive winning streak at French, China and Hong Kong Open. His significant rise in the rankings was simply fantastic! “said Frost.
“It is good for badminton’s future in the country. It just confirms my believe…on the first day I was here, I said I believe Chong Wei will do it,” he told reporters at the Welfare Association of Wives of Ministers and Deputy Ministers (BAKTI) Junior Badminton Tournament 2015 at the Sports Arena in Sentosa on Thursday.
In regards to the opening for men’s singles coach, Frost confirmed he has a list of applicants that include local and foreign coaches.
“I can’t say too much about the applicants right now, and I have not talked to Chong Wei about the coach selection yet. Hopefully I can finalize the deal by end of December,” added Frost.
