Kuala Lumpur: After spending most of 2014 recovering from her knee surgery, Goh Liu Ying’s partnership with Chan Peng Soon looked to be more successful than expected as they reached the mixed doubles finals of their first tournament together after a 10-month separation.Goh Liu Ying and Chan Peng Soon (right) are eyeing the Kuala Lumpur Open title

With brilliant aggressive display from the former world number 3 mixed doubles pair, coupling with their beautiful net shots, Goh/Chan sent third seeds Mohd Lutfi Zaim Bin Abdul Khalid/Soong Fie Cho packing with 21-19,21-13 victory in 34 minutes. They will square off top seeds Wong Fai Yin/Chow Mei Kuan for the mixed doubles title on Sunday.

In men’s singles, a feisty Goh Soon Huat overcame fourth seed Daren Liew in a gripping Kuala Lumpur Open semi-final on Saturday, ending the 28-year-old’s hope of clinching the Kuala Lumpur Open title.

Goh Soon Huat who lost to Daren in the Perak Open final last year, has been a man on a mission as he fought back from a set down to beat Daren with 15-21, 21-18, 21-15 in 63 minutes.

“I played more patiently, and Daren seemed very uncomfortable with the slow shuttle today. The win was definitely a great boost for me heading into the final,” said Soon Huat.

After defeated second seed Yang Li Lian on Friday, the 15-year-old Goh Jin Wei was continuing on a hot streak, celebrated with fist pumps after blasted past her senior Lee Ying Ying in the women’s singles semi-finals. Goh Jin Wei who lost to Lee Ying Ying at the Malaysian national grand prix finals on December last year, needed only 40 minutes to exact revenge over Ying-Ying with 21-16,21-17. Goh Jin Wei faces Lin Yin Fun in the final on Sunday.
