KUALA LUMPUR: Before Tuesday, there’s doubt whether Goh Soon Huat is good enough to play fourth men’s singles in Malaysia Thomas Cup team. Soon Huat’s name would be submitted to BAM for endorsement as the fourth men’s singles player in the Thomas Cup teamIn the second selection trial that was held on Tuesday, he overcame the doubts and will join three others – world No. 1 Lee Chong Wei, Chong Wei Feng and Daren Liew for the 2014 Thomas Cup squad.

Soon Huat appeared to be more well prepared in the second selection trials. He was more aggressive and was more proactive on his attacks. He was going neck and neck with former national champion Misbun Ramdan Misbun in the first set before winning 21-19; In the second set, Soon Huat fought through the entire way to clinch the win with 21-15. Soon Huat also won the first selection trials held last month.

“I’ve had enough of being a sparring partner. I am determined to win a spot as an official member in the Thomas Cup team this time,” said Soon Huat.

“Ramdan is a very good badminton player. I played more aggressively today and it worked out well for me,” added Soon Huat.

Ramdan will have to wait for next Thomas Cup to continue his family legacy where his father Misbun and four uncles Rashid, Jalani, Razif and Rahman had represented Malaysia at various Thomas Cup Finals before.
