Kuala Lumpur: Malaysia’s World No. 9 men’s pair Teo Ee Yi/Ong Yew Sin are looking to bounce back from a disappointing first-round exit at the Hong Kong Open last week as they prepare to compete in the Asian Games in Hangzhou, China, which begin this Saturday.
Ong Yew Sin told Malaysian media on Tuesday that they are not too concerned about their recent form, as they have been dealing with injuries and other challenges.
“The results haven’t been in our favor lately, but we’ve tried our best,” said Ong.
“We also can’t use injury as an excuse, because it’s part of an athlete’s life. Of course, we want to give our best at the Asian Games,” added Ong.
In the first round of the Hong Kong Open last week, Teo/Ong lost to the Japanese duo Keiichiro Matsui/Yoshinori Takeuchi 16-21, 23-25 ​​in 46 minutes.
Teo/Ong have represented Malaysia at the 2018 Asian Games before, but they and the Malaysian team were eliminated in the quarterfinals of the men’s team event in 2018.
“It’s been five years, which is a long time, but we have gained some experience from that,” Ee Yi-Yew Sin said. “Maybe we can share that experience with those who are new to the Asian Games for the first time.”
The pair will be aiming to make a deep run in the men’s doubles tournament at the Asian Games. Hopefully, with their experience and talent, they are certainly capable of making a podium finish.
