Taipei: Malaysia’s World No. 2 Lee Zii Jia held a meet-and-greet session in Taipei on Wednesday while Taiwan’s World No. 20 Wang Tzu Wei also made a surprise appearance as a special guest.

Speaking to the Taiwanese media, Lee hoped to deliver good results in front of Malaysian fans when playing at the 2023 Malaysia Open Super 1000 event, which will be held in Kuala Lumpur from January 10 to January 15.

“Of course, every player hopes to win the championship in his own country. I’ll try to enjoy the game while achieving good results,” said Lee.

The Taiwanese media also would like to know how did Lee feel when people always compared him with the Malaysian badminton legend, Lee Chong Wei, Lee Zii Jia said: “Lee Chong Wei is a legend, and it’s going to be difficult for anyone to surpass his achievement in the next 20 or 30 years. He is an athlete similar to the level of Michael Jordan in basketball. Therefore, I would just focus on myself and just do whatever I could to achieve my best.”

He was also asked why everyone who participated in the Viktor Axelsen training camp seemed to experience drastic improvement.

Lee who also trained with Axelsen briefly said Axelsen was very busy, and he didn’t get a lot of opportunities to train with Axelsen.

“Viktor was very busy at that time because of the birth of his baby, I didn’t have much time to train with him.”

“But the fact that there were many top players who gather to practice together, it definitely helped and I learn a lot from them.”

During the meet-and-greet session, Lee who won the 2022 Asian Badminton Championships and the 2022 Thailand Open, played a fun and exhibition men’s singles match with Wang Tzu Wei using a super-large badminton racket. He also partnered with young kids for a men’s doubles exhibition match with Wang.
