Singapore: Three Malaysia men’s pairs cleared their Singapore Open first-round hurdles respectively on Tuesday.

The World No. 10 Ong Yew Sin/Teo Ee Yi needed only 29 minutes to beat Thailand’s Supak Jomkoh/Kittinupong Kedren, 21-14, 21-14.

Ong Yew Sin/Teo Ee Yi who pulled out of last week’s Malaysia Masters after Ong tested positive for COVID-19, will meet World No. 24 Lu Ching Yao/Yang Po Han of Taiwan in the second round.

Malaysia’s men’s doubles World No. 12 Goh Sze Fei/Nur Izzuddin also got off to a good start at Singapore Open by eliminating World No. 55 Hiroki Okamura/Masayuki Onodera of Japan 21-19, 21-6 to meet World No. 40 M.R. Arjun/Dhruv Kapila of India on Thursday.

Another Malaysia’s independent men’s doubles pair – Goh V Shem/Low Juan Shen needed 20 minutes to advance to the second round by outlasting India’s World No. 34, Shyam Prasad/S Sunjith Jr, 21-12, 21-10. Goh/Low will meet the winners between Sabar Karyaman Gutama/Moh Reza Pahlevi Isfahani of Indonesia or Andy Kwek Jun Liang/Jason Wong Guang Liang of Singapore in the next round.

Meanwhile, both Malaysia’s professional men’s singles players, Cheam June Wei and Soong Joo Ven suffered early exits in the qualifying rounds.

Cheam, who defeated India’s Chirag Sen 21-14, 21-14, in the first qualifying match, failed to keep his winning momentum when he lost 29-27, 19-21, 21-23 to Singapore’s Jason Teh in the second qualifying match.

Soong, on the other hand, lost 15-21, 11-21 to German Max Weisskirchen in his opening qualifying match.
