Kuala Lumpur: Aaron Chia/Soh Wooi Yik of Malaysia have advanced to the 2022 Malaysia Masters quarter-finals when they outlasted South Korean opponents Kim Gi Jung/Kim Sa Rang 21-18, 21-18 in 34 minutes on Thursday.

The World No. 6 Malaysian duo is set to play Taiwanese pair Chang Ko Chi/Po Li Wei next. Chang/Po beat another Malaysian men’s doubles pair Yap Roy King/Chang Yee Jun 14-21, 21-11, 21-10 in the second round.

“We were calmer and enjoyed the match. We were playing patiently on the court,” said Soh.

“We are still trying to improve our game,” added Soh.

Also in the quarter-finals was World No. 80 from Malaysia – Junaidi Arif/Muhammad Haikal when they defeated compatriots Man Wei Chong/Tee Kai Wun 21-18, 21-14 in the second round.

Arif/Haikal will meet last week’s Malaysia Open runners-up Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto of Indonesia on Friday.

In men’s singles, Malaysia’s sole representative Ng Tze Yong was stranded in the second round action after losing 21-18, 21-16 to No. 4 seeds Chou Tien Chen from Taiwan.

Meanwhile, Goh Soon Huat/Shevon Lai took on the challenge in the mixed doubles second round to edge past Hafiz Faizal/Serena Kani of Indonesia 21-15, 22-20. They will face off against the No. 2 seeds and also last week’s Malaysia Open champions – Zheng Si Wei/Huang Ya Qiong of China on Friday.
