Jakarta: The World No. 1 Viktor Axelsen of Denmark captured his third title of the season on Sunday by defeating World No. 2 Chou Tien Chen of Chinese Taipei in straight sets in the 2022 Indonesia Masters final on Sunday.
The Dane has been strong throughout the Indonesia Masters as he has yet to drop a single set in five matches. Axelsen needed 41 minutes to see off Chou 21-10, 21-12 in the men’s singles final.
Prior to Indonesia Masters, Axelsen has won the 2022 European Championships, and 2022 All England. Axelsen held a 15-2 career head-to-head win over Chou after Sunday’s victory.
In men’s doubles, Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto successfully won the only title for the hosts at the 2022 Indonesia Masters. The World No. 7 Alfian/Ardianto beat Chinese pair Liang Wei Keng/Wang Chang 21-10, 21-17 in 36 minutes. This was the Indonesian pair’s second title of the season after winning the Swiss Open Super 300 event in March.
“After this, there will be Indonesia Open in two days. So in my opinion, we can use this victory as a motivation, and we need to stay focused and improve our mental and physical strength,” said Fajar.
“We would like to be more consistent in every match. Starting from the Swiss Open until now, thank God, we are getting better,” added Fajar.
“Maybe at the end of the month, we want to get back into the top five ranking in the world. Before the end of the year, we are hoping to be in the top three,” continued Fajar.
In the mixed doubles final, China’s World No. 2 Zheng Si Wei/Huang Ya Qiong beat Thom Gicquel/Delphine Delrue of France 21-13, 21-14 in 38 minutes for their fourth Indonesia Masters title.
Zheng/Huang have proven they are still one of the top mixed doubles pairs in the world by winning the 2022 Badminton Asia Championships and the 2022 Thailand Open before Sunday.
“We don’t focus on how many titles we won, we just focus on improving our performance in every game,” said Huang Ya Qiong.
“We will be playing in Singapore, Malaysia, and the world championships as a pair. We will try to play well in those tournaments,” said Zheng Siwei.
In women’s singles, Chen Yu Fei overcame a stern challenge from Ratchanok Intanon to win her first title of the season by beating Intanon 21-16, 18-21, 21-15.
Meanwhile, Chen Qing Chen/Jia Yi Fan clinched the third title for China at the 2022 Indonesia Masters after outlasting the Indonesian pair – Apriyani Rahayu/Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti 21-18, 21-12 in the women’s doubles final.
