Jakarta: Chan Peng Soon and Goh Liu Ying who no longer playing together but are still ranked World No. 8 in the BWF mixed doubles rankings, became two opponents facing each other in the 2022 Indonesia Masters first round on Wednesday playing with their respective new partners.

Chan and his new partner Cheah Yee See needed only 32 minutes to outlast Goh Liu Ying and her new partner – Soong Joo Ven 21-17, 21-10 to advance to the second round.

The unseeded Chan/Cheah will play No. 5 seeds Seo Seung Jae/Chae Yu Jung of Korea on Thursday.

Another Malaysian mixed doubles pair – Hoo Pang Ron/Toh Ee Wei also made the second round by beating Chang Tak Ching/Ng Wing Yung of Hong Kong 21-19, 21-13. Hoo/Toh will meet another pair from Hong Kong – the No. 6 seeds Tang Chun Man/Tse Ying Suet next.

Meanwhile, the World No. 11 mixed pair – Thom Gicquel/Delphine Delrue from France pulled off a huge upset to hand World No. 1 Dechapol Puavaranukroh/Sapsiree Taerattanachai of Thailand a first-round exit, seeing off the Thai pair 21-19, 21-16.

In women’s singles, the No. 1 seed Chen Yufei of China will play Zhang Beiwen of the USA in the top half of the bracket on Thursday, while No. 2 seed An Se Young from Korea will take on Iris Wang from the USA in the second round.
