Dubai: India’s newly crowned Thomas Cup champion – Lakshya Sen has arrived in Dubai to join the reigning Olympic Champion – Viktor Axelsen, reigning World Champion – Loh Kean Yew, World No. 17 Lee Cheuk Yiu of Hong Kong, and World No. 72 Cheam June Wei of Malaysia for an eight-day training camp (May 29 to June 5) at the NAS Sports Complex.
This was Sen’s second stint in Dubai training with Axelsen and other top shuttlers. The World No. 9 Sen was training in Dubai last September, and after his first training camp with Axelsen, the 20-year-old from India had experienced an incredible breakthrough by winning the 2022 India Open crown, finishing runner-up at both 2022 German Open (lost to Kunlavut Vitidsarn of Thailand 18–21, 15–21) and 2022 All England Championships (lost to Viktor Axelsen of Denmark 10–21, 15–21).
Sen’s breakthrough continued and he was tipped for a bright future in badminton when he and his teammates created history by winning the 2022 Thomas Cup trophy for the first time in the history of Indian badminton, beating defending champions Indonesia 3-0 in the final.
During his first stint with Axelsen, Sen posted the message below on his Instagram:
“Good first week of training here in Dubai,
It’s a pleasure to be able to spar with some of the world’s best, and at such a nice facility @nas_sc

At that time, Sen was ranked World No. 24. Who would have thought in just eight months, his world ranking has already skyrocketed to World No. 9.
After Dubai, Sen will fly to Indonesia to participate in the Indonesia Masters which is set to kick off on June 7th.
