Jakarta: Indonesia’s World No. 16 Yeremia Rambitan promptly apologized on Wednesday after a video of him speaking inappropriate language during a TikTok live went viral a few days ago.

The 22-year-old who won the 2022 Badminton Asia Championships (BAC) with Pramudya Kusumawardana on May 1, 2022, has issued an apology to everyone who was offended by the inappropriate remarks he made.

“Hello everyone. I, Yeremia, apologize to the Badminton Association of Indonesia (PBSI), the leader of NOC Indonesia, and all Indonesian badminton fans,” PBSI uploaded an apology video from Rambitan to its official social media account.

“I regretted my actions. I made a mistake when I was joking with inappropriate words,” added Rambitan.

Rambitan said he had received a warning from PBSI in regards to this matter.

“I was severely reprimanded by my coaches for this, and once again, I would like to apologize to everyone,” continued Rambitan.

In the video which landed him in hot water, he was heard saying: ” I love you, I want f*** you.”

When the PBSI Secretary-General – Muhammad Fadil Imran was asked by Indonesian media whether PBSI would impose some sort of punishment on Rambitan, Imran said this would be a lesson learned not only for Rambitan but for all Indonesian badminton players.

“I think getting the warning from PBSI’s Secretary-General was serious enough for him. Moreover, he already received a lot of criticism from the fans. He has assessed the situation and realized he did something wrong,” said Imran.

“In the future, all national team players should be very careful of how they behave while using the internet. Hopefully, this won’t happen again!” explained Imran.
