Manila: Although the World No. 9 men’s doubles pair – Aaron Chia/Soh Wooi Yik finished silver at the 2022 Badminton Asia Championships (BAC), Chia saw no reason he and Soh couldn’t get back on track at the upcoming tournaments.

Chia who has yet to win any BWF-sanctioned international tournaments since pairing with Soh Wooi Yik in 2017, said the defeat at the hands of the World No. 22 Pramudya Kusumawardana/Yeremia Erich Yoche Yacob Rambitan in the BAC final was not something he wanted.

“This could not be the result we want but sometime we couldn’t control the ending. Let’s make it happen again @sohwooiyik
Still thanks to our sponsor @my100plus @platinumvictory.my and our coaches & support staff that supporting us always 🔥,” Chia posted on his Instagram.

Nevertheless, the doubles coaching director of the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) – Rexy Mainaky was unhappy with World No. 9’s performance, and he has expressed his dissatisfaction, especially towards Soh Wooi Yik.

“I am speechless. Don’t know what Wooi Yik was doing. He just taking shots that he shouldn’t take,” said Mainaky to Malaysian media.

“They were leading 18-14 in the first game and were in complete control. The results might be different if they won the first game,” added Mainaky.

“I am very disappointed with their performance,” continued Mainaky.

Chia/Soh have proven that they were able to beat some of the world’s best, but they often struggled to stay consistent from the beginning until the end of a tournament. They sometimes tend to fall flat even against lower-ranked players.

Hopefully, both Chia/and Soh could fix their weaknesses and could do well at the Thomas Cup Finals which will be held in Bangkok from May 8 to May 15.
