Gwangju: After being eliminated in the first round of the 2022 Orleans Masters on March 30, 2022, the mixed doubles No. 8 seeds Chan Peng Soon/Toh Ee Wei were through to the 2022 Korea Masters second round.

In an all-Malaysian first-round battle, Chan/Toh overcame unseeded Goh Jin Wei/Soong Joo Ven 21-11, 21-20 at the Gwangju Yeonju Stadium.

After the match, Toh Ee Wei admitted she still has a lot more to learn from Chan.

“I need to work on our partnership on the court. Peng Soon is an experienced player and I can learn a lot from him,” said Toh.

“We will continue to work hard for the second-round match even though I am still trying to adjust to the atmosphere of the tournament. I have not been competing for 10 months since last year and before the Orleans Masters,” added Toh.

Chan/Toh face a tough task in the second round as they were scheduled to play Zheng Si Wei/Zhang Shu Xian of China next. Zheng/Zhang defeated Korean pair Park Kyung Hoon/Kim Yu Jung, 21-6, 21-15 on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, although being sent packing in the mixed doubles category, Soong Joo Ven and Goh Jin Wei managed to redeem themselves in both the men’s and women’s singles events.

Soong advanced after beating Jason Teh of Singapore 21-8, 21-18, and will meet the No. 5 seed Heo Kwang Hee of Korea in the second round.

Goh also outlasted Phittayaporn Chaiwan of Thailand 21-12, 19-21, 21-11, and will face China’s Wang Zhi Yi for a place in the quarter-finals.
