Gwangju: The 2022 Korea Masters – a BWF Super 300 event, will kick off its first day in Gwangju, from April 12th to April 17th. The tournament offers total prize money of US$180,000.

After the withdrawal of Goh Liu Ying/Ong Yew Sin, qualifiers Soong Joo Ven/Goh Jin Wei have been promoted to the Korea Masters mixed doubles first round and will take on compatriots Chan Peng Soon/Toh Ee Wei on Tuesday.

As for another Malaysian mixed doubles pair – Tan Kian Meng/Lai Pei Jing who just won the Korea Open mixed doubles crown two days ago, have decided to withdraw from the tournament. Lai wrote on her social media that she’s hoping Tan Kian Meng could focus all his energy on the men’s doubles event at the Korea Masters.

“Kian Meng and I have withdrawn from next week’s Korea Masters. I am worried that he might have been too exhausted playing in both men’s doubles and mixed doubles for the last few weeks. Therefore, I think there’s no need to compete in the mixed doubles, let him concentrate on the men’s doubles instead,” said Lai.

In addition to playing in the mixed doubles, the World No. 65 Soong Joo Ven will face Jason Teh Jia Heng of Singapore in the men’s singles first round while Goh Jin Wei will take on Phittayaporn Chaiwan of Thailand on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, China’s Tokyo Olympics gold medalists – Wang Yi Lyu/Huang Dong Ping will set up an all-Chinese battle against Guo Xin Wa/Liu Xuan Xuan in the first round.
