Jakarta: The chairman of PB Djarum (a major Indonesian badminton club based in Kudus, Central Java), Yoppy Rosimin, admitted that Indonesia’s World No. 5 mixed doubles pair – Praveen Jordan/Melati Daeva Oktavianti, together with World No. 11 mixed doubles player – Gloria Emanuelle Widjaja, were being sent back to their home club (PB Djarum) from Badminton Association of Indonesia (PBSI).

However, Rosimin denied that these players have been officially dropped from the Indonesian national badminton team.

“Based on the letter we received from PBSI in mid-December 2021, the association would determine whether to call back these players or to drop them from the national team upon completion of its National Selection process. The exact time for the process has not yet been determined,” said Rosimin.

Rosimin went on to clarify that a lot of other badminton players were sent home from the Indonesian national team as well.

“From what we understood, up to 100 shuttlers from PBSI were sent back to their home clubs,” added Rosimin.

Nevertheless, the chairman of PB Djarum did admit that the performance of Praveen Jordan/Melati Daeva Oktavianti has been decreasing compared to the previous year.

“Compared to last year, there was clearly a decline in their performance. But PBSI should evaluate and help them improve instead of putting blame on them. For example, PBSI should try to improve the communication between the two players,” continued Rosimin.

Rosimin also said that these athletes had already set their target at future tournaments, especially to compete in the 2024 Paris Olympics.

“They are focusing on the 2024 Paris Olympics. However, their short-term goals would be to do well at the 2022 All England in March, the 2022 World Championships in Tokyo, and other Super 1000s tournaments. These would be sufficient to help them maintain their world’s top ten rankings,” concluded Rosimin.
