Kaohsiung: The women’s singles World No. 1 Tai Tzu Ying of Taiwan on Sunday made her first public appearance since her return to Taiwan.
Tai and four other Taiwanese Olympians visited the office of the Mayor of Kaohsiung – Chen Chi-mai, and she posted a group picture and the following message on her Instagram after the visit:
“I am very happy to come to the Kaohsiung City Government to meet with the mayor. It is a rare opportunity to be able to visit the mayor’s office.”
She also shared her feeling with the Taiwanese media about how she felt after coming home from Tokyo with the silver medal.
“I didn’t even want to look at the silver medal after the Tokyo Olympics. Actually, someone helped me packed up the medal in a box before we left Tokyo,” said Tai.
“After I went home from self-isolation, and tried to share the news with my grandma, that’s when I looked at the silver medal carefully, for the first time. It looked pretty good,” she seemed able to cope with the loss in the Olympic final much better now.
In regards to her next plan, Tai said she would focus on the World Championships which will take place at Palacio de los Deportes Carolina MarÃn in Huelva, Spain, from December 12 to December 19, 2021.
She said she is currently still taking time off from badminton and has not yet resumed her training.
When asked about whether she would compete in the 2024 Paris Olympics, she didn’t provide a firm answer on that.
“It’s still a long time from now, I have not yet decided about that,” added Tai.
