Ratchanok Intanon’s Mother Passes Away

Bangkok: Thailand’s badminton superstar, Ratchanok Intanon paid tribute to her mother – Kamphan Suwannasara, who has just passed away in a Facebook post on Aug. 19.

Intanon, who also goes by the name “May”, announced the news through her mother’s Facebook account with the message below:

“Hello, this is May. My mother has always been strong. Mom always cared about the people around her. May apologizes for not being able to bring back the medal she has been dreaming of. May would like to thank everyone for supporting us. This post will be the last post from my mother’s Facebook account. Thank you for the good wishes and hope mom could always smile and be happy.”

According to Thailand media, Intanon gave her mom CPR when the incident occurred, however, Suwannasara passed away on the way to the hospital.

Intanon is a very talented women’s singles player. She became the youngest player to ever win the World Junior Championships at the age of 14. She is also the first player in badminton history to win three consecutive World Junior titles (2009, 2010, 2011). She is also the youngest ever singles champion at the BWF World Championships when she won the title in 2013, at the age of 18 years old. She recently revealed on Instagram that the Paris Olympics could be her last Olympics.
