Kuala Lumpur: Malaysia’s World No. 13 men’s doubles pair – Tan Wee Kiong/Goh V Shem have officially ended their partnership after seven years together with their best achievement of winning the silver medal at the 2016 Rio Olympics.

In a message posted on Instagram, Tan Wee Kiong expressed his gratitude for his former partner – Goh V Shem, in which they have reached World No. 1 together in November 2016.

“Thank you for being my partner for the past 7 years. I would not have achieved the level of my badminton career without you, notably the Rio Olympic silver medal and the world number 1. I am thankful for all the supports on and off the court. I wish you all the best in the future. Last but not least, I would like to thank our sponsors & supporters for giving us a hand since we become independent players.”

Tan Wee Kiong/Goh V Shem started their career as professional players in January of 2019 after leaving the Malaysian Badminton Association (BAM).

The pair has won gold in men’s doubles and mixed team events at the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games.

Goh V Shem will partner Low Juan Shen to compete at the 2021 Chinese Taipei Open, a BWF World Tour Super 300 event that will be held in Taipei from September 7 to September 12.

Meanwhile, Tan Wee Kiong will form a new partnership with Malaysia’s mixed doubles player, Tan Kian Meng.
