Kuala Lumpur: There is more than pride and glory for winning the 2021 All England men’s singles title, there’re monetary incentives for World No. 8 Lee Zii Jia too.
Malaysia’s number one sports drink manufacturer, 100PLUS, rewarded 1,000 F&N (Fraser and Neave Group) shares that worth RM30,300 to the 23-year-old on Thursday, following his sensational victory at 2021 All England Championships final by defeating World No. 2 Viktor Axelsen of Denmark 30-29, 20-22, 21-9.
Lee who was appointed the 100PLUS ambassador in January of 2020, was presented the reward by the Chairman of F&N Holdings Berhad, Tengku Syarif Bendahara Perlis Syed Badarudin Jamalullail Ibni Almarhum Tuanku Syed Putra Jamalullail, and the Chief Executive Officer of F&N Holding Berhad in a brief ceremony at F&N Point on Thursday.
“At the contract signing ceremony in January last year, Zii Jia said 100PLUS’ support would help propel him to greater success. He kept his promise and is now an All England champion,” said 100PLUS Senior Marketing Manager Leong Wai Yin.
“The success was amazing when he beat two of the best players in the world, Kento Momota (Japan) and Viktor Axelsen (Denmark) in the quarter-finals and finals. This proves Zii Jia’s ability as a player with a bright future,” added Leong.
Lee Zii Jia ended Malaysia’s four-year drought at the All England after Lee Chong Wei, who was also the 100PLUS ambassador, last won the prestigious tournament in 2017.
“We wish Zii Jia the best of luck at the tournament and hope he will make history for Malaysia in Tokyo later,” continued Leong.
In addition to the award from 100PLUS, Lee Zii Jia had also received incentives for a total of RM 30,000 from BAM, RM 25,000 from the state government of Kedah, the before tax All England championship prize money of US$59,500 (approximately RM246,121) and the prize money of US$2030 (approximately RM8,397) by advancing to the semi-final of the Swiss Open. As of Thursday, Lee has received a total of RM339,818 in total prize money and incentives for his performance in the two European leg tournaments.
Besides Lee Chong Wei and Lee Zii Jia, Malaysia’s World No. 9 men’s doubles pair – Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik also signed a two-year deal to become 100PLUS brand ambassadors in September 2020.
