Odense: World No. 3 Anders Antonsen and World No. 17 Rasmus Gemke trying to become the first Danish men’s singles player to win the Denmark Open on Sunday, since Jan Jorgensen last won it in 2010.
Fans in the Odense Sports Park were cheering for joy on Saturday as they saw the world No. 3 Antonsen as played very tight net shots, and was able to return almost every smashes coming from World No. 2 Chou Tien Chen. Chou tried his best, but couldn’t find any answers to Antonsen’s defense, and eventually ran out of steam as Antonsen picked up his second victory in their 9th career meeting with 21-17, 21-15 in 54 minutes.
Anders Antonsen will set up an all-Danish final with compatriot Rasmus Gemke on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Gemke also put on a brilliant show by overcoming No. 6 seed Kenta Nishimoto of Japan 21-14, 21-17.
In men’s doubles, England’s Rio Olympic bronze medalists, Chris Langridge/Marcus Ellis maintained focus to ward off the challenge from Denmark pair, Joel Eipe/Rasmus Kjer 22-20, 21-16, setting up a final meeting with the 2016 All England champions, Vladimir Ivanov/Ivan Sozonov of Russia in the final.
England’s husband and wife mixed doubles pair, No. 3 seeds Chris Adcock/Gabrielle Adcock will face-off against No. 4 seeds Mark Lamsfuss/Isabel Herttrich of Germany for the Denmark Open crown on Sunday.
