Tokyo: The Japanese badminton team that won women’s doubles and men’s doubles titles at All England last Sunday, has returned to Japan on Monday.

Speaking to media at the Haneda Airport, head coach of Japanese team Park Joo-bong said that the World No. 1 men’s singles player, Kento Momota will return to the Japanese national team training camp on April 12.

“According to our current plan, he is set to return to the national team on April 12. At the meantime, we are going to Momota’s badminton club (NTT East) to look at his condition, and the progress of his recovery,” said Park.

Due to the widespread of the coronavirus pandemic worldwide, BWF has cancelled all tournaments after All England, and the Asia Championships that was scheduled to be held in Manila, Philippines, from April 21-26, was expected to be cancelled too. The government of Philippines has announced on March 12 that domestic air, land, and sea access to the 17 districts of Manila would be suspended from March 15 to April 14, in a bid to contain the spread of COVID-19.

Nevertheless, in order not to regain his rhythm and familiarize himself with real sense of competition, Momota is set to rejoin the intensive training camp that will be held in Tokyo from April 12 to 19.
