Bangkok: World No. 20 men’s doubles pair Ong Yew Sin/Teo Ee Yi got off to a strong start in Thailand Masters first round as they produced a brilliant performance to beat Korea’s World No. 9 Choi Sol Gyu/Seo Seung Jae 21-11, 21-18 in 31 minutes.

The pair will take on China’s World No. 21 Ou Xuan Yi/Zhang Nan who had to dig deep to defeat Malaysian pair Nur Mohd Azriyn Ayub Azriyn/Low Juan Shen 21-16 15-21 21-18 on Tuesday.

Goh Sze Fei/Nur Izzuddin of Malaysia also pulled off an upset on Tuesday when the World No. 25 knocked off World No. 11 Han Cheng Kai/Zhou Hao Dong of China 21-17, 21-18 to set up second round meeting with Lee Jhe-Huei/Yang Po-Hsuan of Taiwan.

Another Malaysian pair, World No. 8 Aaron Chia/Soh Wooi Yik, however, were outlasted by World No. 24, Huang Kai Xiang/Liu Cheng, losing 21-16, 21-12 in 36 minutes.

In men’s singles, both Soong Joo Ven and Cheam June Wei have entered the main draw after battled past opponents in two qualification matches on Tuesday.

Soong will play Ygor Coelho of Brazil, and Cheam will take on World No. 16 Kenta Nishimoto of Japan next.

The women’s singles saw Malaysia’s Goh Jin Wei also came through the qualification to set up a first round clash with World No. 3 Akane Yamaguchi on Wednesday.
