Kuala Lumpur: World No. 1 men’s singles shuttler Kento Momota and three others who were injured in an early morning fatal car accident at the Maju Expressway (Mex Highway) near Serdang on Monday, were believed to have left Putrajaya Hospital Tuesday night.

Momota along with two other members of his support team are expected to return to Japan Wednesday morning.

According to Kinji Zeniya, secretary general of Japan’s Badminton Association, Momota will be skipping next month’s Asia Team Championships and will return to action at the All England Open that takes place in Birmingham on March 11.

Malaysian badminton legend Lee Chong Wei also paid a visit to Momota on Monday at the Putrajaya Hospital.

“No one wants this to happen, it’s a sad incident,” said Lee.

“I also talked to Park Joo-bong (Japan’s badminton head coach) and he told me that they are trying to get back to Japan as soon as possible. He also said Momota would rest for at least two weeks before getting back on court,” explained Lee.

“Let’s pray for Momota for a full recovery, and hope he can get back to court soon,” added Lee.
