Kuala Lumpur: Malaysia’s men’s doubles coach Paulus Firman said he has yet to decide whether he wanted to split up Goh V Shem/Tan Wee Kiong despite their under-par performance this season.

On the other hand, the Indonesian coach was hoping Goh/Tan could maintain their motivation in the face of criticism.

“I have to admit that they are having a tough time, but I’ve just started coaching them since July,” said Firman to Malaysian media at the Malaysian Badminton Academy (ABM) on Monday.

“Looking at their performance, they are often lost in crucial matches by only one or two points. However, a loss is still a loss, but they shouldn’t be so discouraging, we need to find a solution.”

“In addition to trying to improve their shot quality, they also have to play wisely and able to master the speed of the match.”

“I know there are a lot of high expectations placed on both of them, but let’s be more patient, there are still some tournaments left before end of this year.”

At the same time, Firman also pointed out that the former world number one men’s doubles pair, remained the Malaysia’s best bet on major tournaments, so it is impossible to separate them.
