Seoul: Malaysia’s mixed doubles pair, Chen Tang Jie-Peck Yen Wei got past a spirited challenge from Chang Ko Chi/Cheng Chi Ya of Taiwan on Tuesday to enter the Korea Open second round.

The young Malaysian mixed doubles pair fought back after dropping the first set 17-21 to tame the Taiwanese pair 21-14, 21-17 in the next two games.

The World No. 36 Chen/Peck will face a tough test in the next as they will play No. 2 seeds Mathias Christiansen/Christinna Pedersen of Denmark in the second round.

Meanwhile, Malaysia’s Iskandar Zulkarnain Zainuddin failed to qualify for the main draw as he was beaten by Chinese player Zhou Zeqi 22-20, 21-17 in the second qualifying match.

Malaysia’s men’s doubles pair, Goh Sze Fei/Nur Izzuddin Rumsani was also shown the door by Taiwanese pair Chang Ko Chi/Lu Chia Pin, losing 21-18, 11-21, 18-21.

The men’s singles, men’s doubles, women’s singles and women’s doubles first round have been scheduled to kick off on Wednesday.

Among the Malaysian players who will be playing on Wednesday are men’s doubles pairs Aaron Chia/Soh Wooi Yik, Mohd Arif Abdul Latif/Nur Azriyn Ayub, Chooi Kah Ming/Low Juan Shen alongside women’s doubles pair Chow Mei Kuan/Lee Meng Yean, Vivian Hoo/Yap Cheng Wen and men’s singles players Liew Daren as well as Chong Wei Feng.
