Jakarta: World No. 1 women’s singles player Tai Tzu Ying has reached the semi-finals of the 2018 Indonesia Open in Jakarta on Friday after beating Kirsty Gilmour of Scotland 21-16, 21-11 in 31 minutes.

Tai won the opening game without facing a serious challenge though it was a seesaw battle in the first half of the first set. The second set was a one-sided affair as she eased past the unseeded Gilmour in a 31 minutes battle. Tai will next play No. 8 seed He Bingjiao of China, whom she defeated in the Malaysia Open final last Sunday.

In another women’s singles quarter-final match, China’s No. 5 seed Chen Yufei pulled off an upset by outlasting Japan’s No. 2 seed Akane Yamaguchi 23-21, 21-18 in 34 minutes.

Chen will play South Korea’s Sung Ji Hyung for a final berth.

In women’s doubles competition, the No. 5 seeds Misaki Matsumoto/Ayaka Takahashi of Japan overcame unseeded Huang Dongping/Li Wenmei to cross sword with compatriots Yuki Fukushima/Sayaka Hirota in the semi-final.

The women’s doubles No. 1 seeds Chen Qingchen/Jia Yifang of China will take on unseeded Mayu Matsumoto/Wakana Nagahara of Japan in another women’s doubles semis.
