Bangkok: Thomas Cup defending champions Denmark together with Indonesia and Malaysia have been assigned a training facility after their arrivals in Bangkok so that the players could start getting ready for the Thomas and Uber Cup Finals that will begin on May 20, 2018.

However, the inside temperate for the gym they were assigned to was too hot, ranging from 33 Celsius (91.4 Fahrenheit) to 35 Celsius (95 Fahrenheit), which actually made many players from Denmark felt uncomfortable. Hans Kristian Vittinghus was forced to take off his shirt during training. This was completely understandable after BadmintonPlanet realized temperature in Copenhagen, Denmark on Friday was around 15 to 17 Celsius (59 Fahrenheit to 62.6 Fahrenheit).

Not only players from colder country such as Denmark felt overheated, players from countries where the temperatures are high almost all throughout the year such as Indonesia and Malaysia also questioned the condition of the gym.

“This training gym is so hot, seems like there’s no air conditioner in this facility,” said Lee Chong Wei of Malaysia.

Indonesian players such as Hendra Setiawan and Marcus Fernaldi Gideon also applied ice bags to cool themselves down gradually after training.

Competition for the men’s Thomas Cup and the women’s Uber Cup begins Sunday morning with teams squaring off across four courts in the official venue where the temperature is colder. All teams have slowly moving their training to the official venue since Saturday. According to the organizer, they are still adjusting the light and mitigating the drift in the official stadium before the tournament starts on Sunday.
