Mulheim an der Ruhr: Malaysia’s Goh V Shem/Tan Wee Kiong raced through their German Open quarter-final against No. 2 seeds Mads Conrad-Petersen/Mads Pieler Kolding of Denmark, booking their places in the last four with 21-19 win in the first set, and were granted the eventual victory after the Denmark pair retired half way through the second set.

Goh/Tan who won the Rio Olympic silver medal will take on No. 6 seeds Takuto Inoue/Yuki Kaneko of Japan in the semi-finals.

The Malaysian camp also enjoyed an impressive performance from Goh Soon Huat/Shevon Jemie Lai in the mixed doubles quarter-finals when the No. 3 seeds came back from the verge of elimination to beat No. 5 seeds Dechapol Puavaranukroh/Sapsiree Taerattanachai of Thailand in 70 minutes, clawing back from 19-20 in the third set to grind out a three-set 21-14, 18-21, 23-21 victory.

Goh/Lai are set to battle No. 8 seeds Choi Solgyu/Chae Yoo Jung on Saturday for a spot in the final.

After losing his first to 16-21 to No. 6 seed Angus Ng Ka Long In men’s singles, Lin Dan put his best effort trying to force a decider by coming back from 18-20 to level the score at 20-20 in the second set. Despite Lin’s resilient, he succumbed, and from there Ng seized the initiative and soon broke Lin to win the match 21-16, 22-20.

Ng will play No. 3 seed Shi Yuqi of China on Saturday.
