Jakarta: The unseeded Goh V Shem/Tan Wee Kiong of Malaysia overcame a second set deficit to battle past No. 5 seeds Lee Jhe-huei/Lee Yang of Taiwan in three sets in the Indonesia Masters second round on Thursday. The Malaysian men’s pair was pushed the distance before beating the Taiwanese pair 21-15, 16-21, 21-13 in 42 minutes.
Goh/Tan will play No. 3 seeds Liu Cheng/Zhang Nan of China on Friday whom they defeated in last week’s Malaysia Masters quarter-finals.

Another Malaysian men’s doubles pair however was sent packing by Denmark’s No. 4 seeds Mads Conrad-petersen/Mads Pieler Kolding    Denmark, bowing out 11-21, 17-21.

After Viktor Axelsen retired from the tournament citing ankle injury, China’s Chen Long became the highest ranked player left in the main draw.

Chen outlasted Thailand’s Suppanyu Avihingsanon 21-13, 21-8 to set up a quarter-final fight with Anthony Sinisuka Ginting of Indonesia next.

In the women’s competition, Taiwan’s top seed Tai Tzu Ying, Thailand’s Ratchanok Intanon, Japan’s Nozomi Okuhara, India’s Saina Nehwal and P.V Sindhu, China’s He Bingjiao Korea’s Sung Ji Hyun and Spain’s Olympic champion Carolina Marin were among those in the last eight.

Malaysia’s mixed doubles pairs of No. 7 seeds Tan Kian Meng/Lai Pei Jing and unseeded Goh Soon Huat/Shevon Jemie Lai were through to the quarter-finals, and will take on each other for a spot in the semi-finals.
