Viktor Axelsen, Tai Tzu Ying continues to lead BWF rankings

Kuala Lumpur: Viktor Axelsen of Denmark and Tai Tzu Ying of Taiwan remained in the number one spot in the Badminton World Federation (BWF) world men’s singles and women’s singles rankings released on Thursday.

The 23-year-old Axelsen who won the World Championships in Glasgow Scotland this year, maintained the top spot although he lost the Denmark Open quarter-finals last Friday against India’s Kidambi Srikanth. Srikanth, on the other hand, jumped to fourth spot in the world badminton rankings this week.

Korea’s Son Wan-Ho occupied the second position, while Lin Dan stayed in the third. Chen Long, in fifth place with 66,706 points, followed by Shi Yuqi.

Malaysia’s Lee Chong Wei dropped to seventh, Angus Ng Ka Long of Hong Kong and Wang Tzu Wei of Taiwan rounded up the top 10 with 9th and 10th place.

In women’s rankings, Tai Tzu Ying has a very handy lead atop the BWF rankings, with P. V. Sindhu of India on the second spot followed by Sung Ji-Hyun of Korea, Carolina Marin of Spain and Akane Yamaguchi of Japan.

The latest top 10 BWF women’s singles rankings and point scores are as follows:

1. Tai Tzu Ying (Taiwan) 92,759 points
2. P.V Sindhu (India) 81,106 points
3. Sung Ji-Hyun (Korea) 76,175 points
4. Carolina Marin (Spain) 73,787 points
5. Akane Yamaguchi (Japan) 72,849 points
6. Ratchanok Intanon (Thailand) 68,191 points
7. Sun Yu (China) 66,581 points
8. He Bingjiao (China) 64,892 points
9. Nozomi Okuhara (Japan) 63,567 points
10. Chen Yufei (China) 62,010 points
