Ho Chi Minh City: The 2017 SEA Games silver medalist Khosit Phetpradab of Thailand overcame a formidable performance from compatriot No. 10 seed Suppanyu Avihingsanon in the Vietnam Open men’s singles final, seeing off his countryman 21-15, 21-19 in 51 minutes to clinch the Vietnam Open men’s title on Sunday.
After Sunday’s victory, Phetpradab extended his career head-to-head against Avihingsanon to 3-0, as he had beaten the same opponent at the 2013 Chinese Taipei Open, and at the 2013 Canada Open.
In the women’s competition, top seed Sayaka Takahashi of Japan lived up to her billing in the final by outlasting No. 4 seed Vu Thi Trang 21-9, 21-14 to pick up a straight sets win in just 34 minutes at the Nguyen Du Stadium in Ho Chi Minh City.
The Thailand camp also took home the women’s doubles crown as No. 5 seeds Chayanit Chaladchalam/Phataimas Muenwong stormed past Indonesia’s No. 7 seeds Della Destiara Haris/Rizki Amelia Pradipta 21-16, 21-19 in a 50 minutes battle.
Indonesia wrapped up the day by winning the men’s doubles title through Wahyu Nayaka Arya Pangkaryanira/Ade Yusuf Santoso and added the mixed doubles title to their success after Alfian Eko Prasetya/Melati Daeva Oktavianti defeated compatriots Riky Widianto and Masita Mahmudin 21-14, 21-14 in 35 minutes.
